Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
